Wafia: I'm Good (Single)(Future Classic)

UM! WHAT A BOP. Biggest, brightest break-up anthem ever from our Brissie lady Wafia! I am so excited. I have loved all of Wafia's music, but with her previous couple of singles harboring deeper topics and sadder stories 'I'm Good' is such a refreshing change! The combination of groovy-groovy bass, flashes of 80's pop, and Wafia's vocals unite to create an empowering boogie. I am sold on this song a million times over. (Molly Jackson)

Sycco: Sycco 1-2 (Independent)

Holiday Party: Run Away (Single)(Independent)

Local duo, Holiday Party, send listeners swimming through the clouds with their new single Run Away. True escapism has never sounded so pretty. Holiday Party wonderfully mix electronic, retro and dream pop elements into a groovy, swirly concoction of whimsical realness. I particularly love the sliding of odd sounding notes during the bridge - something about it creates an unparalleled, shimmering euphoria. Please do another gig soon! (Jade Rodrigo)

Pink Matter: Human Error (INDEPENDENT)

Ultra Material: Rhodamine (Single)(Blackwire Records)

Ultra Material are back with another beautiful single in ‘Rhodamine', the first sneak peek release from their upcoming sophomore record 'Cosmic Anti Stuff', due out through Black Wire Records August 29th. ‘Rhodamine' has the same sweet, warm sticky glow we have come to expect with Ultra Material but there’s a undercurrent of urgency there too. Eager anticipation indeed to hear the the rest of the record created by this humble band, who continue to champion the modern dream pop movement. (Jasmine Dunn)

Indigenoise: The New Code (Single) (HYDROFUNK RECORDS / MGM)

Cookin’ On 3 Burners ft Kaiit: Warning (Single)(Soul Messin’ Records)

Cookin’ On 3 Burners prove themselves funk experts on their newest single Warning featuring Kaiit. With well-crafted grooves and an obvious sense of music connectivity between the groups members, Warning is impossible not to nod to. Guest vocalist Kaiit shines, as she flows between singing and rhyming to assert her independence. (James Chadwick)

Hemm: Emerging With The Day (Spirit Level)

Melbourne duo, Juice and Bobby, conjure new experimental pop single Emerging With The Day. Deeply intertwined with polyrhythmic synths and abundant textures of echoing vocals, Hemm invite listeners to explore new musical territories. The track is a flooded cacophony of twinkly, bouncy, ascending sounds that somehow work so well together. I've had it looping for 15 minutes straight and I am still noticing a new sound every time. Can't wait for more! (Jade Rodrigo)

Simo Soo: Very Pretty (YES RAVE)

Melbourne rapper/producer Simo Soo's latest release is focused on positive energy and spiritual awakening, at least lyrically, but when you get to the tracks themselves, they are utterly wild. Old-school dance beats glitch and trip over themselves, chopped up samples and dirty synths power the wild sense of punk abandon that permeates the whole release while Soo and a slew of guests (Bilby, flower boy 卓颖贤, Lalić, Bistro, Mamacita Death, No Zu’s Daphne Camf) spit about life, positivity, sexuality and Sticky Fingers. This record beats the ears into submission with abundant samples, trash beats and should be played at full volume where possible.(Clayton Bick-Paterson)

East Denistone: Sitting With Strangers (Single)(Independent)

A heavy hearted, melancholic piano heavy ballad from Sydney’s East Denistone. This song conjuring up images of delicately moving across the sweeping and vast Australian landscapes to memories of people and time past. ‘Sitting With Strangers’ is the debut single, from the upcoming EP ‘While You Still Draw Breath’ due for release later this year. Mallee Songs: Drinking The Ocean (Single)(Dusty Tracks)

Melbourne five piece, Mallee Songs, release new single titled Drinking The Ocean. Gentle and laidback, the band blends airy vocals with light guitar picking to transport listeners to a sunset by the beach. The band incorporates multiple instrumental solos, adding an element of improvisation that ultimately relaxes audiences even more. Mallee Songs have let me drink the ocean and its delicious. (Jade Rodrigo)

Terremoto: The Bridge (Behind The Beat Records)

Not confining themselves to the restraints of geographical location, brand new post-punk / new wave 4-piece band Terremoto have transcended borders to create their debut EP 'The Bridge'. While writing the record, demo recordings were being bounced across the Pacific Ocean, between band members in Melbourne and California. Distance in this case proving to create unity within this 5 track EP. It is fundamentally a post punk record, but it’s creeping on the lighter side, with big moments of pop music swells. It overall influences a feeling of positivity, more so then what we may be used to with other bands of this genre. ‘The Bridge’ may have been created from a divide, but it is one of the most harmonious post punk releases so far this year. (Jasmine Dunn)

Overseas

DRELLER: Shape Of Love (Single)(AWAL) - London-based, Sydney-born artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist DRELLER drops pulsating new single, Shape Of Love. The track is beat heavy with a masterful ingenuity of oscillating synths and effects. DRELLER generates an electrifying amalgamation of funk and electro-pop to produce a punchy, space age, techno tune. You can check out DRELLER at Bigsound! (Jade Rodrigo)

Tirzah: Devotion (Domino)

Emma Ruth Rundle : Dark Horse (Single)(Sargent House)

American Gothic Folk singer/songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle, has released ‘Darkhorse’ her second single from her upcoming album 'On Dark Horses’ due for release September 7th through Sergeant House. Her vocals may be familiar to fans of her other bands Marriages, Red Sparowes and previously, the Nocturnes. ‘Darkhouse’ however, is driving and brooding, imitating the nature of the animal it garners its title from. The song is a communication between two sisters dealing with past trauma and the triumph of adversity through dealing with such conflict. (Jasmine Dunn)

Miserable : Gasoline (Single)(Sargent House)

‘Gasoline’ is the first single released from singer/songwriter Kristina Esfandiari AKA Miserable. Miserable’s upcoming double EP 'Loverboy / Dog Days', a combination of her newly recorded material as ‘Loverboy’ and a re-release of her rare ‘Dog Days’ cassette originally issued in 2015. ‘Gasoline’ is a very noticeable shift from her previous dark, dream pop orientated releases. This new single takes us into more power-pop territory, somewhat closer to a sound more reminiscent of a sugar coated version of her other doom, post-rock band ‘King Woman’. (Jasmine Dunn)
