No consensus on $1.3 billion native title deal offer by WA government
The Nyoongar people of South West Western Australia have yet to decide whether to accept a huge $1.3 billion offer to surrender over 300 000 hectares of native title land to the Western Australian government.
If accepted, the six recognised clans of the Nyonngar people would share in $50 million per year over 12 years, plus an extra $10 million for administration costs.
The South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council is supportive of the deal, but many in the community are opposed to selling off their land.
4ZZZ reporter Steven Riggall spoke to an opponent of the deal, Nyoongar woman Associate Professor Rosemary van den Berg.
