Extraterrestrial plant life discovered in stratosphere
The discovery was made after the scientists sent a balloon 27 kilometres into the stratosphere and it returned carrying small biological organisms which they believe originated from space.
It is believed these findings could be evidential proof for the theory of ‘cometary panspermia’. This theory hypothesises that life is spread through the universe via meteors.
Professor Milton Wainwright of the University of Sheffield’s Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology says that he is 95 per cent certain that these organisms do not originate from Earth.
The team will attempt to confirm their findings by sending a second balloon up in October.
