Dance To Guitars With Black Amex, El Norto & Fluent JB

Kicking off at 5pm and spinning its way right through until 2am, this is the best workout you’ll get all year—forget diets, forget jogging, forget Crossfit, come and dance to guitars! Featuring the mad DJ skills of BLACK AMEX, EL NORTO and FLUENT JB. Black Amex Black Amex is an avid vinyl collector and enthusiast with a particular passion for playing original soul, funk and classic rock records. Black Amex stumbled upon DJing 3 years ago armed with a backpack of soul records and the need to spread classic grooves. Since then she’s become a regular feature in clubs and bars around Brisbane, regularly playing at favourite local haunts, including Black Bear Lodge, The End, Sixes and Sevens, The Bearded Lady, Greaser Bar, Super What Not. Playing a mix of soul, funk, classic rock, beats, hip-hop and modern to make you smile and groove. El Norto DJ El Norto is a pop kid. That 3 minutes or so of pure unadulterated joy in the form of a song. He can’t get enough. At first it was annoying his friends with compilation tapes, then it was an accidental transition from barman to DJ at Ric’s bar, then The Troubadour, then The End bar, The Bearded Lady, Up Late at GOMA, and the West End record fair monthly. And now The Triffid. He can’t hardly wait. DJ Fluent JB DJ Fluent JB has been laying down her deep cuts since 1990. She started out DJing while living upstairs from a night club—The Alliance Hotel—where she cut her teeth lugging her small crate of records for short slots playing alternative, punk and goth tunes. Throughout the ’90s she held four-year residencies at The Zoo, Empire and Ric’s where DJ Fluent JB’s name gained momentum, along with her style as she worked on creating amazing shows, accommodating extremely talented guests (such as DJ Dexter from The Avalanches to Brisbane hip hop champions Resin Dogs). In 2001 and 2003 DJ Fluent JB had the incredible opportunity of touring with Powderfinger on their Suburban Fables tour and Vulture Street tour respectively—an experience that was second to none. After completing the Vulture Street tour in 2003, JB decided to take a hiatus from DJing to pursue other musical interests. She is honoured now to be playing at The Triffid.
