Garry filling in this week. Like 4ZZZ, Turkish singer Sezen Aksu is celerating her 50th anniversary since her debt, and we are featuring her new album Paşa Gönül Şarkıları (Pasha Heart Songs). There is new music from three different Bosnian groups - Divanhana, Mostar Sevdeh Reunion and Dubioza Kolektiv. You'll be hearing a song from Amadou & Mariam's forthcoming album L'Amour a la Folie, along with Alaa Zoutien, a Moroccan oud player fusing flamenco and North African influences and Brazilian singer Nina Maia. Bea Asurmendi provides a rare glimpse into music from the Basque country, plus there are new singles from Vesna (Czechia), Beni Ninagawa (Japan) and Otyken (Siberia), along with more from recent releases Rick has been playing.
This week, a reissue of Rick Asikpo & Afro Fusion a mythical soul/boogie record Got to Be Me by this Nigerian multi-instrumentalist when he was studying in Houston. Recorded in Louisiana 1981 and only ever released in Nigeria. Putumayo’s latest Latin Chill, gracing the stages here in Brisbane & Miami next weekend Melbourne Ska Orchestra with cuts from Ballad of Monte Loco their rhythmic Spaghetti Western dreamworld, Star Feminine Band from Benin and their 3rd album Jusqu’au bout du monde and much more.
