Peezo @ The Foundry, 21st November 2015

On Saturday night while most of the city was frothing over Tame Impala, at The Foundry we were all graced with the appearance of some of Brisbane and Australia’s greatest Hip-Hop acts.

To kick off the night was the ever gracious and funny Leeze The Kid. Between the amazingly random, yet hilarious personal story time including remarks made about is badass blonde moustache, there were amazing performances. With some great flow and bars that worked well with perfect and familiar samples, such as the use of Skepta’s ‘Nasty’ among others.

To follow such a hard act was the Hip-Hop group Gratis Minds. The boys managed to put on another fantastic performance, I can’t speak more highly of the amount of enthusiasm that was pushed into a set, complete with grown men jumping around the stage and the full nine yards. The highlight was the level of political awareness injected into the set, while not heavy handed was a great addition and gave a more varied performance.

Next on the line-up was Gallus, who’s set I have already spoken about and for anyone wanting a recap was fairly similar to the show with Hau. Maybe just a little less insane.

Finally Peezo took to the stage with his headline performance. Who was quite clearly a man of great character and talent. Lyrically he was undeniably on another level of the game, with lyrics that felt true and from the soul. There was no flexing just pure thoughts and emotion, which is always refreshing coming from this scene. Through is performance he took time to let other performers on stage to get involved. The connection he had with all the other acts on the night was clear, like a family and it came through in the music.
