Strokes affect most families at one point or another? Do you know what strokes are, how to recognise one in action or the current research being conducting?

Losing arm, hand, and language functions after a stroke affects 1 in 6 survivors three-months after a stroke and innovative new ways to help stroke survivors regain arm movement and learn to speak again is on the horizon.

Joining 4ZZZ's Eliot and Toni to chat about current stroke research is Kate Hayward of The Florey Institute of Neuroscience & Mental Health (University of Melbourne) who is leading the new nation-wide trial.

For a deep dive…

To find out more about the UPLIFT trial, run by Kate's REPAIR research team, check out the information on their website. Here is a brief Youtube video about the trial if you prefer a quick overview.

Trial participants should have:

  • had a stroke within the previous 3 - 5 months

  • have experienced hand, arm or speech difficulties

Additionally, the UPLIFT trial is recruiting physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and assistants for the roles of assessor and rehabilitation therapists, if you're an interested medical professional, please email uplift-trial@unimelb.edu.au.
