Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month | Great Barrier Reef projects

Story #1 (in Studio): Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month
Parkinson’s Disease was first raised to prominence by Doctor James Parkinson way back in 1817.
Around 10 million people globally are affected by Parkinson’s Disease, with April being the month of awareness. The 11th of April in particular is World’s Parkinson’s Day. One of 4ZZZ’s own is going through a journey with the disease.
4ZZZ's Toni Pankaluic chatted with Salty Otton, Australian Coordinator for the 2022 International Parkinson's Games and presenter of 4ZZZ's Rhinestone Cowgirl, who shares her story of what its like living with Parkinson’s Disease, giving us an insightful perspective about the condition.

Parkinson's Queensland is an excellent site that provides a wealth of information to help those with Parkinson's Disease, either long-suffering or recently diagnosed. Whether you are a carer, a medical professional or are interested in getting involved, Parkinson's Queensland is a great start!
For further research, the American Parkinson Disease Association is also a great learning site, which provides easy-to-understand summaries of the many symptoms as well as other useful information.

Story #2 (Brisbane Line 'Live Chat'): TropWater Great Barrier Reef projects and Sea Grass
We often hear the Great Barrier Reef is in trouble - coral bleaching and warming waters to mention a few threats, however do you know of the reefʻs other ecosystems like sea grass? How do these other ecosystems fare, what projects are happening on the reef and do efforts overlap?
4ZZZ's Eliot Rifkin chatted about our reef with Dr Abbi Scott a Research Officer from TropWater at James Cook University.

Dr Scott coordinates the Cairns-Port Douglas Reef Hub Project, a network of community partners who together aim to preserve and rehabilitate the Great Barrier Reef.
