Radio Reversal

Anna, Natalie, Han, Lamisse, Aleea, Jonathan and Helen

Thursday

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Radio Reversal is a show that subjects aspects of everyday life to historico-political, theoretical, cheeky, irreverent, high brow, low brow, eye brow, warm-hearted analysis. Our aim is to see the world more clearly, think about what we'd like it to become, and how we can make that happen.  We think that discussing these sorts of ideas is one way to lessen the alienation that affects many of us trying to make sense of a world that so often makes no sense of us.  We also play loads of awesome music (sometimes thematic!) with great enthusiasm for requests and an emphasis on supporting local artists. It's fun!

Challenging Colonial Copaganda w. Prof Chelsea Watego, A/Prof Amanda Porter, Dr. Amy McQuire & Brisbane Free University

This week on Radio Reversal, Anna brings you another episode of Radio Reversal On The Road, sharing excerpts from a webinar that we organised alongside @Brisbane Free University on Thursday 25th July, featuring Prof Chelsea Watego, A/Prof Amanda Porter and Dr. Amy McQuire in conversation about colonial copaganda and the work that needs to happen to challenge and disrupt it.

In these first excerpts, we learn from Amy, Chelsea and Amanda about the experiences that have shaped their understandings of colonial copaganda on this continent, and the work that copaganda does in normalising and rationalising state violence, oppression, and racism. We'll be returning to this conversation between Amy, Chelsea and Amanda in two weeks, and you'll be able to listen back to a podcast version of the discussion as part of the second season of the Radio Reversal podcast, set to be released next month. As always - we'd love to hear your thoughts, reflections and suggestions! Have you found yourself noticing colonial copaganda in your own life? Started bingeing a new show and struck by the way it positions cops as the good guys? Had conversations with family or friends who have bought into the idea that policing is about public safety and community well-being?

Please get in touch and let us know what you're thinking! You can message us right here, or email us at radio dot reversal at gmail dot come! We'll be producing a short series of zines based on our copaganda series, including this webinar and some future discussions, and we'd love your feedback! I'm not in the studio today, so I can't take track requests or calls, but we'd love to hear from you remotely.

AND OF COURSE! A final reminder that it's almost Zed Christmas, AKA, RADIOTHON! This year, we're celebrating the fact that community radio sounds different - that we are dedicated to bringing you stories that matter, told for and by our communities. So get your fingers warmed up and be ready to hit the big "subscribe" button on the website so you can keep being an instrumental part of what keeps radical radio on the airwaves!

CONTENT WARNING:

A note that there are some heavy themes in this conversation, including descriptions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander deaths in custody, coronial inquests, and police violence. If anything you hear on the show triggers difficult emotions for you, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or 13 YARN for confidential counselling support, or reach out to friends and family.
