When making your breakfast this morning, don't forget to add a generous sprinkle of Hedgehog .....YUMM!

Th' Hedgehog delves into the past with some classic, though not always familiar, music. Not stuck in the past only, plenty of new exciting sounds also feature.
As somebody once said of Yesterdays Hedgehog: "A retro look at tomorrow's music going forward to the past. What a wild mix!"
Maybe the Hokey Pokey IS what it's all about!

Drunk MumsHot FlushDemin (Rel: 2018)AUS 07:00:00

4 piece band from Melbourne, Drunk Mums return with hard-hitting single ‘Hot Flush’ from their forthcoming EP, Denim, and head out on tour in January. The forthcoming EP, recorded by bass player and vocalist Adam Ritchie, aka Pissfart Records, shows his skills are constantly improving sonically as can be heard in this latest wrecking ball of a track. ‘Hot Flush’ has been dug up from the vaults of hell and doesn’t mess around when bringing the heat. An exciting head bang worthy barrage of hits, Denim will be the 5th release from Drunk Mums - 4 tracks including previous single ‘Ode To Death’, ‘Power Slide’, ‘Hot Flush’ and instant classic ‘Kidnapped’.

Seriously get your hands on this 7” because the last one sold out quicker then you can say rocks dead. Folks are saying it sounds like The Ramones and The Saints bulked up on protein powder and had a possessed baby. The four piece, have built a reputation for their rowdy shows over the years, having played at many of the country's finest festivals: Cherry Rock, Party in the Paddock, Paradise, Sounds of the Suburbs as well as with the likes of Jake Bugg, Dune Rats and Rich Ramone.

Fred Smith has been a favourite on the Australian festival circuit for years, much loved for his gentle wit, gift for story and melody, and sublime collaborations with Liz Frencham and The Spooky Men's Chorale. Now the rest of Australia is catching up with Fred Smith. He was the subject of a recent Australian Story feature about his work in Afghanistan and on peace keeping operations in the war-torn islands of the South Pacific. The title track from his acclaimed album, Dust of Uruzgan, has been covered by country music star Lee Kernaghan.

Fred recently wrote a book, The Dust of Uruzgan, published by Allen and Unwin and available in all good bookstores. Now he has popped out a new double album called Great, available through this site and MGM distribution from October 2017.

Hedfog is something we have all experienced - the feeling you get rocketing down neural pathways, when it becomes difficult to imagine where you'll end up. It doesn't help if the well-meaning chime 'it's not the destination, it's the journey.' hedfog offers soundscapes for these awkward moments.

Hedfog is Peter Greasley's solo project, though enriched by occasional contributors from Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Jimi Tenor & Tony AllenSinuheInspiration Information 4 (Rel: 2009)

Tony Allen (born 1940 in Lagos, Nigeria) is a Nigerian drummer, composer and songwriter who currently lives and works in Paris. His career and life story have been documented in his 2013 autobiography Tony Allen: Master Drummer of Afrobeat, co-written with author/musician Michael E. Veal, who previously wrote a comprehensive biography of Fela Kuti.

As drummer and musical director of Fela Anikulapo Kuti's band Africa 70 from 1968 to 1979, Allen was one of the primary co-founders of the genre of Afrobeat music. Fela once stated that, "without Tony Allen, there would be no Afrobeat." He has also been described by Brian Eno as "perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived."

Finnish musician and composer Jimi Tenor has never settled for the traditional role of a pop artist. He is known as a productive musician whose work lies beyond current trends, and also as a performer who combines the finest elements of afro-american music, spontaneous silliness and shameless glamour in an original way.

Today Jimi Tenor is an established European artist who operates outside the mainstream. His audience consists of clubbers and alternative rock enthusiasts looking for new perspective, but also of jazz and funk rebels. Those who understand that even unconventional pop music can move your body and heart.

Creedence Clearwater RevivalI Heard It Through The GrapevineCosmo's Factory (Rel: 1970)

Creedence Clearwater Revival, often referred to as simply Creedence or CCR, was an American rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The band consisted of lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter John Fogerty, his brother rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug Clifford. Their musical style encompassed the roots rock, swamp rock, and blues rock genres. Despite their San Francisco Bay Area origins, they played in a Southern rock style, with lyrics about bayous, catfish, the Mississippi River, and other popular elements of Southern United States iconography, as well as political and socially-conscious lyrics about topics including the Vietnam War. The band performed at the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Upstate New York.

Today Doug Clifford celebrates his 73rd birthday.

Doug Sahm & The Tex Mex TripHouston ChicksGroover's Paradise (Rel: 1974) 07:46:00

Douglas Wayne Sahm (November 6, 1941 – November 18, 1999) was an American musician and singer-songwriter from Texas. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was a child prodigy in country music but became a significant figure in roots rock and other genres. Sahm is considered one of the most important figures in what is identified as Tex-Mex music. Proficient on multiple instruments, he was the founder and leader of the 1960s rock and roll band, the Sir Douglas Quintet. He would later co-found the Texas Tornados with Augie Meyers, Freddy Fender, and Flaco Jiménez as well as Los Super Seven.

Sahm had earlier worked with former Creedence Clearwater Revival members Doug Clifford and Stu Cook—Clifford produced the Sir Douglas Quintet's 1974 LP Groover's Paradise also playing drums and percussion, with Cook playing bass.

Emily Wurramara’s childhood was one of water and music. Growing up on Groote Eylandt, days were filled with travel, fishing and extended family, a mother telling stories of dreams and dolphins that would one day become the seeds of Emily’s music. In almost the blink of an eye the young fresh faced artist who debuted her breakout EP ‘Black Smoke’ in 2016, has matured into a now seasoned award winning Indigenous performer and a proud new mum with her own stories to pass down to her daughter.

Emily was a finalist in this year's Carol Lloyd Award (won by Leanne Tennant) and performed at QPAC at the Women of the World concert earlier this month.

Leanne TennantGentle AnnieRed Wine, Late Nights (Rel: 2016)LOCAL

Leanne Tennant's second album provides a solid backgrounder for experiencing Tennant's live shows, given that the majority of tracks were recorded live, in one take. Tennant says that 'live-on-record' aesthetic — often less 'perfect', but always infinitely more dynamic, than what you'd get on a rigidly produced, over-polished affair — is something she's been chasing for a while now, and she's finally found the happiness with her own musicianship to be able to step back and appreciate the bigger picture.

She has just recently won the 2018 Carol Lloyd Award, presented at the WOW (Woman of the World) concert at QPAC earlier this month.

Dave Orr BandValley BelowSingle released 2018LOCAL

A 3 piece blues/roots act from Brisbane, QLD

Playing the blues is never as simple as it seems. It's a balancing act between virtuosity and feel, rawness and finesse. Many try, but few seem to nail it like DAVE ORR. At the heart of his music is that unmistakably raw blues guitar. It's the sound of late night whiskey bars, of musicians stretching themselves and just letting loose. Dave's reputation as a peerless guitar player has also seen Dave tour Europe and North America as a session musician. This song is all about shaking off the bad vibes we all combat in our day to day lives, climbing our way out of the valley we can sometimes find ourselves in, and doing away with the things that try to drag us down.

Lloyd SpiegelAll The Cats Are GreyThis Time Tomorrow (Rel: 2017)AUS 08:17:00

Lloyd Spiegel has released his 9th album, This Time Tomorrow. It’s a ten track piece that showcases Spiegel’s extraordinary talent. One of the most noticeable things about this record, and indeed much of Spiegel’s work is how impossibly clean and crisp the sound is. A hefty chunk of contemporary bluesfolk rely on rustic production to create something that sounds like authenticity. Spiegel however lets his fingers do the talking. The closest comparison is probably something like Santana’s or even Gary Moore’s solo work over the years.

The subject matter of many of the tracks seems to have been collected over jaunts through a bunch of US and European cities and towns and loves and losses and a revisiting of familiar spaces.

Spiegel is an artist who understands how to get a guitar to sing and cry and scream and kick like very few of his contemporaries can, and This Time Tomorrow is a nice little slice of what it sounds like when a guy like that takes a few years to let the inspiration build.

The song is an up-beat and fun-loving funk track about a girl's male alter ego's female alter ego causing havoc in a gold shop. Are we confused yet?

King of the TravellersSeñor Oxido Single released 2018AUS

On their fierce new single Señor Oxido, Fremantle 7-piece King of the Travellers ride into new territory with a heavy gallop. While the song's lyric is a playful ode written upon the departure of former bandmate Rusty, Señor Oxido is a powerful orchestration of the band's impressive ensemble.

Intertwining layers of Romani, Balkan and Celtic folk into a punk-fuelled tornado, King of the Travellers summon the musical ghosts of yore from every corner of the globe. On their fierce new single Señor Oxido, the Fremantle 7-piece ride into new territory with a heavy gallop – immersing the listener in a scorching Spaghetti Western. Although sounding nothing like their previous work, Señor Oxido is perfectly at home amidst King of the Travellers' set-list – bursting at the seams with the band's innate ability to inspire a heaving dance floor. Van MorrisonCaravanMoondance (Rel: 1970)

Sir George Ivan Morrison OBE (born 31 August 1945) is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter, instrumentalist and record producer. In 2016, he was knighted for his musical achievements and his services to tourism and charitable causes in Northern Ireland.

Known as "Van the Man" he started his professional career when, as a teenager in the late 1950s, he played a variety of instruments including guitar, harmonica, keyboards and saxophone for various Irish showbands, covering the popular hits of that time. Van Morrison rose to prominence in the mid-1960s as the lead singer of the Northern Irish R&B band Them, with whom he recorded the garage band classic "Gloria". His solo career began under the pop-hit oriented guidance of Bert Berns with the release of the hit single "Brown Eyed Girl" in 1967. After Berns's death, Warner Bros. Records bought out his contract and allowed him three sessions to record Astral Weeks (1968). Though this album gradually garnered high praise, it was initially a poor seller.

Moondance (1970) established Morrison as a major artist, and he built on his reputation throughout the 1970s with a series of acclaimed albums and live performances. He continues to record and tour, producing albums and live performances that sell well and are generally warmly received, sometimes collaborating with other artists, such as Georgie Fame and The Chieftains.
