Red AsterSeven YearsRed Aster (Rel: 2018)LOCAL 07:00:00

A passion for the guitar underpins this EP, however great care has been taken in the recording studio to make sure that the songs were left as naked as possible, and to keep the ‘space’ in the sound. A little reverb with a dirtied-up edge rounds it all out.

Red Aster’s single “Seven Years” is a shamelessly rocky track about the frustration and regret of time wasted. It has a dark rhythm punctuated by a hard-hitting lead guitar riff, which Karen matches emphatically with her unforgiving vocals. Seven Years sits in contrast to other tracks on the EP that might be better described as floaty, haunting, and even a little strange, but it shares the common elements of space and sincerity that make it undeniably Red Aster.

Bakers EddyTalkback RadioI'm Not Making Good Decisions E.P. (Red: 2018)AUS

Pop Punk outfit Bakers Eddy have released their brand new E.P titled I’m Not Making Good Decisions. The Melbourne based band who originally hail from New Zealand have put together six fast, distorted and catchy songs that hook you in straight from the get go.

The E.P was produced by Tom Larkin and Jon Grace and goes for the raw energy sound of guitar, bass and drums with no need to add extra instrumentation or glossy production techniques. The band’s approach is to simply throw paint with a lot of force at an empty canvas and see what sticks.

The Claypool Lennon DeliriumCricket & The Genie (Movement I, The Delirium)Single released 2016 07:18:00

This project is a collaboration between Primus’ Les Claypool and Sean Lennon.

The pair came together while Lennon’s Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger was opening for Primus and Dinosaur Jr. in 2016. After a number of backstage jam sessions, Claypool invited Lennon on stage for “Southbound Pachyderm” and was blown away by his face-melting guitar. “I realized that this fella had some chops,” the bassist told Rolling Stone. “Primus was about to take some time off and I was gearing up a new project so I asked Sean if he’d like to come to Rancho Relaxo and see if we couldn’t get some interesting sounds on tape. Next thing I know he’s staying in my guesthouse over the holidays and we’re drinking vino, hunting mushrooms and throwing musical pasta at the walls.”

FourPlay String QuartetBoundSingle released 2018AUS

Australia’s favourite electric string quartet, FourPlay, return today with a rocking new single and stack of national tour dates to celebrate. Featuring original track ‘Bound’, the digital-only single also includes three archival remixes of FourPlay songs.

With five albums plus a double remix album under their belts, FourPlay started their career wowing audiences at festivals and sell-out headline shows with radical reinventions of popular songs, covering everyone from Radiohead and Rage Against The Machine to Sufjan Stevens and Leonard Cohen. Their last release (2014’s This Machine) was the first to feature 100% original material composed by the four members: brothers Peter and Tim Hollo, Lara Goodridge, and Shenzo Gregorio.

Their new single ‘Bound’ is classic FourPlay, a cut that’s got it all: a big dirty riff that pushes and pulls, urgent and soaring vocals, a deeply melodic chorus, and a crazed viola solo to push everything over the edge.

The Paul Butterfield Blues BandI Got a Mind to Give Up LivingEast-West (Rel: 1966) 07:32:00

East-West is the second album by The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, released in 1966 on Elektra Records, EKS 7315 in stereo, EKL 315 in mono. It was recorded at the famed Chess Studios on 2120 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago. It peaked at #65 on the Billboard pop albums chart, but is regarded as highly influential by rock and blues music historians.

Like the band's record debut, this album features traditional blues covers and the guitar work of Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop. Unlike the band's debut album, Bishop also contributed guitar solos; drummer Sam Lay had left the band due to illness to be replaced by the more jazz-oriented Billy Davenport. The social complexion of the band changed as well; ruled by Butterfield in the beginning, it evolved into more of a democracy both in terms of financial reward and input into repertoire.

Robert JohnsonPreaching Blues (Up Jumped The Devil)Circa 1937

Robert Leroy Johnson (May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938) was an American blues singer-songwriter and musician. His landmark recordings in 1936 and 1937 display a combination of singing, guitar skills, and songwriting talent that has influenced later generations of musicians. Johnson's shadowy and poorly documented life and death at age 27 have given rise to much legend. One Faustian myth says that he sold his soul to the devil at a local crossroads of Mississippi highways to achieve success. As an itinerant performer who played mostly on street corners, in juke joints, and at Saturday night dances, Johnson had little commercial success or public recognition in his lifetime.

Asylum Street SpankersBeathin'My Favorite Record (Rel: 2002)

The Asylum Street Spankers was founded by Christina Marrs, Wammo, and Guy Forsyth after a party at the Dabbs Hotel near the Llano River in Texas in 1994. The band began by busking on the streets of Austin and playing for tips in bars. In their earliest days, the Spankers' repertoire consisted almost entirely of country, blues, jazz, swing, and Tin Pan Alley songs from the 1890s to the 1950s, with an emphasis on the 1920s and 1930s. The band developed a raucous and irreverent sound, focusing on musicianship and theatricality. Several early members were actors and nearly all members have been multi-instrumentalists. Until 2004 they played most of their concerts without amplification.

The band derived its name from Austin's Guadalupe Street, where they would often busk and where they played early shows. At one time Guadalupe Street was nicknamed "Asylum Street" because it led to a state psychiatric hospital. According to Christina Marrs, "'spanking' is an old jazz term for playing your instrument vigorously. But we still like the other connotation of spanking as well."

Transistor GirlDon't You Let Me GoSingle released 2018

Timeless melodies, drenched in melancholic beauty: That's the adequate description for the music of Geneva's Transistor Girl. They've been also called a swiss version of Radiohead, since the duo made quite a stir with their indie-hit “Weak as I am” last autumn.

With their new single “Don't You Let Me Go” Transistor Girl show us their skills again. It's a song as gentle as it should be on the right moments. And it's intense in other parts. In the same time their sound is playful and driven by pulsating rhythms.

InnessaGolden WreathSingle released 2018LOCAL

Establishing herself in the Australian folk festival scene, Sunshine Coast songstress, Innessa, has found her niche infusing alternative folk with Eastern-European influences on her spellbinding new single, Golden Wreath, out 4 May.

Drawing on her Russian roots and experiences travelling the Western world, Innessa's music is a magical doorway where East meets West - uniting cultures and eras using traditional instruments such as guitar, cello, violin and the Russian balalaika in modern ways.

Inspired by an old Russian Folk custom, Golden Wreath recounts the journey of a young woman carrying a wreath in search of a husband, later placing it on the shoulder of the man she likes. With the wreath a symbol of dreams and desires, Innessa's spellbinding tune is a reminder to walk with purpose; to follow your true destiny.

All For DarcyOrdinary LifeToo Beautiful for Earth E.P. (Rel: 2018)AUS

All for Darcycame into existence when good mates Pete Atkinson and Sam Hickey played music at a Mt. Lilydale footy function. The two then started working on songs together, which Pete had been writing about his son Darcy Atkinson, who passed away in 2012 in unclear circumstances. Pete and Sam realised that the songs were more than just an emotional outlet with a rapidly growing fan base. Ordinary Life is the featured single from All For Darcy’s debut EP Too Beautiful for Earth.

All for Darcy formed in 2016 when Peter (Songwriter) was given the opportunity to record songs at Sing Sing studios. Peter had uploaded a song on Facebook written for his son Darcy Atkinson who passed away in 2012 whilst in the care of Darcy's mothers, then boyfriend.

The song was then heard by some good friends in Temper Trap who contacted Peter with the idea that he should professionally record his song with their producer and friend, Russell Fawcus at Sing Sing Studios in Cremorne. Peter took his chance and with good friend Sam (Drums), they arranged the songs with producer Russell and recorded the Too Beautiful for Earth. Peter and Sam were proud of what they had achieved and were keen to start a band and call it All for Darcy.

A chance meeting led to the skills of Danny Lilly who joined the band on bass guitar. The songs were now ready hit the stage. The boys had been searching for a guitarist to complete the line-up, fortunately a young strapping lad named Brett LeMin was in the crowd on their first gig. Brett joined the band, completing the line up and solidifying the iconic All for Darcy sound. All for Darcyexploded into the Victorian music scene dominating the battle of the bands and bring a positive energy to every stage they grace.

The band have a 90s rock sound, taking influence from the Goo Goo Dolls, Oasis and Jebediah. All for Darcy aim for their music to be uplifting for people to listen to, to bring hope to those who need it and also to highlight the importance of children’s welfare in broken families.

All for Darcy want to raise awareness and be a voice for fathers who don’t have access to their children because of a biased unjust legal system.

Zoe Fox and the Rocket ClocksWarrior PrincessSingle released 2018AUS

Written as a celebration of women’s strength, Warrior Princess acts as a message to Fox herself. A message that implores her to become the very best version of herself that she can possibly be. After one listen to the new, totally confident disco direction, it seems as though Fox may infact
have already taken it onboard.

Swirling synths and funk infused guitars lay the foundation while Zoë swoons, “You can be a warrior princess like me”. It’s infectious, intelligent disco pop delivered by an artist who is clearly getting more and more comfortable in her own skin.

After starting out just over a year ago, Zoë Fox and the Rocket Clocks have blasted off. Last year saw them bring in the New Year at New Years Eve on the Hill, this year saw them bring it in at the Lorne leg of Falls Festival. Add to that a set at this years The Hills Are Alive and supports for the skyrocketing Diddiri, and The Teskey Brothers and you can start to gauge how in demand this
band really is.
