When making your breakfast this morning, don't forget to add a generous sprinkle of Hedgehog .....YUMM!

Th' Hedgehog delves into the past with some classic, though not always familiar, music. Not stuck in the past only, plenty of new exciting sounds also feature.
As somebody once said of Yesterdays Hedgehog: "A retro look at tomorrow's music going forward to the past. What a wild mix!"
Maybe the Hokey Pokey IS what it's all about!

Sprout explores a new direction of composition, influenced largely by minimalist music infused with moments of structuredimprovisation. Their recently recorded album, 'Hectic Moon', is comprised entirely of original material, with an array of strange track titles that hold little to no connection to each respective work.

The Ironing MaidensStrike While The Iron's HotAUS 07:15:00

Award-winning electronic duo, The Ironing Maidens are putting domestic labour, technology and the history of women in electronic music centre stage with their live electronic performance art piece.

Ingeniously adapting real irons and ironing boards into electronic instruments to create breakthrough music (and a new genre - electro housewife!), The Ironing Maidens have toured Europe, playing Germany's famous Fusion Festival, The Performing Arts Festival Berlin, featured at Byron Bay's Falls Festival and taken out the 2017 Best Electronic Music Production in their local Awards. The duo recently toured regional laundromats in New South Wales supported by Create NSW and the Australia Council for the Arts.

The Ironing Maidens, Patty Preece and Melania Jack, inspired this experimental electronic arts project as a homage to the work of Daphne Oram, an unsung pioneer of music technology from the 1950’s whose work has been instrumental in the development of the electronic sound industry.

The music is a fresh new take on house music, with 4 to the floor beats, driving 303 style bass patterns, samples from 1950’s advertising and real world laundry sounds as well as lyrical concepts that will iron out your idea’s about housework and gender roles. Superb sound, projected visuals, sensational lighting and a smoke machine transforms any old laundry into a whole new spin cycle experience for the audience. Bring your washing!

Lucy And The RatsCan't SurfLucy And The Rats (Red: 2018)AUS 07:19:00

Lucy Spazzy - Vocals, guitar
Mike Cannibal - Bass
Joe To Lose- Guitar
Manu - Drums

Summer 2015. Lucy has been in London for a year and is bored of playing at home by herself. She needs a band badly so she assembles together a bunch of deadbeats and outcasts from the punk rock underworld and starts rehearsing. Manu, Mike and Joe, who were together in Michael Jackson become the Rats. Why not? How could you mess up such simple songs? The invention works! The melodies become power pop tunes and after a few rehearsals (if you could call it that) they start recording them. There you go, what you get from that is Lucy and the Rats, a kick ass punk band playing Lucy's catchy melodies.

Ruby GilbertDearly BelovedDearly Beloved E.P. (Rel: 2018)LOCAL 07:22:00

Ruby Gilbert embraces a moody, gothic-tinged style of song-writing. The Brisbane-based songstress is an old soul, inspired by the grittiness of Johnny Cash, whilst channelling a timeless and stylised atmosphere. Her left-of-centre phrasing is unexpected and speaks brutally honest truths. Raw and heart-breaking, her voice evokes an old-time feel, while her lyrics are both strange and endearing.

After working closely with mentor and producer, Aaron Shanahan for the past year, Ruby will be releasing her debut EP 'Dearly Beloved' in June.

The Dreggs, a two-piece indie-folk duo who formed in mid 2017, have been making their way through the music scene at a steady speed. The pair of musicians from Bribie Island, a small town in South-East Queensland, formed The Dreggs on the Sunshine Coast, infusing a mixture of summer vibes and wintery folk in the one unique sound.

The Dreggs latest single release, Feel Alive, gives a good insight into yet another punchy, fun ‘foot-tapper’, providing the perfect segue into the release of their EP Seas Embrace. Feel Alive is about learning to appreciate life and finding a way out of being stuck in one place with no way out, which compliments the theme of the album.

The Teskey BrothersI Love A WomanHalf Mile Harvest (Rel: 2017)AUS 07:37:00

The Teskey Brothers are a rare musical gem. Honouring that old school Motown sound and working it into something of their very own, the band have received widespread acclaim for their gorgeous debut album Half Mile Harvest. A raw combination of soul and blues, the record has warmed the hearts of listeners everywhere with it’s melancholic, analogue tones.

Written by all four band members, the album was recorded in their own home studio, self-produced and released independently. Listening to the record you’d be forgiven for thinking it was the work of Stax Records alumni in Memphis circa ‘67 rather than a group of twenty-somethings from the Yarra Valley just outside Melbourne. The feeling is as old as the tape machine it was recorded on and it’s a true expression of love.

Onstage singer Josh Teskey’s smoked whiskey voice defies expectation as the band around him hold an irresistible groove. Their undeniable live show has wowed audiences around the world, leaving them infected with soul and blues.

Talking HeadsOnce In A LifetimeRemain In Light (Rel: 1980) 07:49:00

Remain in Light is the fourth studio album by American new wave band Talking Heads, released on October 8, 1980 through Sire Records. It was recorded at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas and Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia between July and August 1980 and produced by long time collaborator Brian Eno. Following the release of Fear of Music in 1979, Talking Heads and Eno sought to dispel notions of the group as a mere vehicle for frontman and lyricist David Byrne. Drawing on the influence of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, the group experimented with African polyrhythms, funk, and electronics, recording instrumental tracks as a series of looping grooves. The sessions incorporated a variety of side musicians, including guitarist Adrian Belew, singer Nona Hendryx, and trumpet player Jon Hassell.

Brian Eno also co-wrote this song. He celebrates his 70thbirthday today.

Frank ZappaFrogs With Dirty Little LipsThem or Us (Rel: 1984) 07:55:00

By the early '80s, Frank Zappa had four children. They were growing up, becoming more interested in music in general and curious about their father's activities in particular. Between 1980 and 1984 they were all given a chance to contribute. Dweezil played guitar on-stage with his father, Moon recorded vocals for "Valley Girl," and Diva supplied the title for "Moggio" and the story behind "Chana in de Bushwop."

Ahmet Zappa, the youngest sibling, had sung a verse in "Drafted Again" and co-wrote the lyrics to "Frog With Dirty Little Lips," which he performed on-stage with the band in December 1981. The song was later recorded in the studio (without Ahmet) and released on the 1984 album Them or Us. Today Ahmet Zappa turns 44 years old.

Over the next two decades, the members stayed close while pursuing their own creative paths before the idea of a Belly reunion gained serious traction just a few years ago.

It stands for Tough Shit.

The Groundhogs evolved into a blues-rock trio that produced three UK Top 10 hits in the UK Albums Chart in the early 1970s. Although they have continued to play in various line-ups to the present day, McPhee officially retired from the band in 2015.

Blending So-Cal, Hip Hop and dub reggae with a dash of the Endless Summer soundtrack thrown in, Bearfoot’s sun-soaked-yet-dark take on roots, reggae & dub has sent ripples through the country, and even over the ditch.

You could blame their highly energetic, sweat-drenched live performances, or their ability to create catchy melodies, but whatever the case, Bearfoot have been turning heads wherever they (and/or their music) go.

Mixing a solid rhythm section made up of fat bass and steadfast drums with percussive flare, bubbling keys, dubby guitars, horn lines that won’t quit, and vocal harmonies to support vocalist Asher Chapman’s passionate rapid-fire vocals, Bearfoot unashamedly bring their own take on Australian Roots/Reggae music.

Ben CamdenLast NightCaroline E.P. (rel: 2018)AUS 08:49:55

This Sydney-based singer-songwriter, Ben Camden, is stirring big grins on bright faces with his deep, ominous and looming vocal tone over this strutting blues-rock beat that bolsters this new single ‘Last Night’ (out 4th of May).

‘Last Night’ follows the release of the first single ‘Strawberry Jam’ off his forthcoming EP ‘Caroline’, expected to be released later this year. When released in December 2017, ’Strawberry Jam’ quickly turned heads and found itself on Triple J, Double J, and community radio playlists.

As a result, Ben went on an extensive tour where he also had the opportunity to support both Sarah McLeod (The Superjesus) and Colin Hay (Men At Work).

Ben hastily dove back into the studio – a converted concrete rain tank – to record and collaborate with Govinda Doyle (Angus & Julia Stone – ‘Big Jet Plane’) on this new single ‘Last Night’. What emerged was an upbeat rock track that finds a place sonically and stylistically in between The Doors and the Chili Peppers.
