Theophilus LondonI Stand Alone
Reprise / Warner

After releasing an intriguing, odd and enjoyable EP earlier in the year, Brooklyn based rapper Theophilus London unleashes his first major debut in time for he pounces on Australian audiences as the major support for the impending Big Boi tour. Though Big Boi adopted some off-beat influences for his first proper solo release- by comparison Mr. London comes across as a frenzied melting pot of genres- part rap, part pop and a nice, fat chunk of electro- if you couldn't already suss it, Theophilus is a dude that doesn't want to be tied down by the often self-restricting boundaries of hip-hop. The record, Timez Are Weird These Days is an unrelenting, upbeat collection of songs, that though they may not change the world, will have your dome boopin'- which to be honest, is a nice change from having someone like Tyler, The Creator, making us all feel a little uncomfortable as we stand around trying not to enjoy his youthful disregard for anything & everything. Is it weird that my two favourite cuts from the record are the first and the last- that's gotta mean something right? Great bread, poor cheese? More like great bread, pretty good cheese.
