- Diagrams is the brand-spanking new project of ex-Tunng type Sam Genders. With some of the folk-tronic crispness that characterised Tunng but this time in the service of pop. Genders' voice and its breathy quality remind me a lot of Gruff Rhys (though I have no idea whether Sam is Welsh) dealing out poetic and colourfully allegorical little quips. If this were an album length I think I'd want to hear something a little more meaty, epic to balance out the neatly dry pop, but as an EP this is perfect: a tuneful flourish a smirk and it's done and then you think, 'I want to hear that again'.
