
- Melbourne scrapsters, Eddy Current Suppression Ring are in my eyes, the one of the best examples of modern day Australian rock music done right- these kids really tap in-to the best parts of old-school punk and garage rock, enticing us all with deceptively simple lyrics, paper-cut inducing hooks and a restrained looseness that threatens to break out at any point and rip the listener apart. Not a new album per say, but more a collection of b-sides, cover's, demo's and other rarities, So Many Things is a nice reminder of a group that has been quiet of late, on a hopefully short hiatus while members of the group spin their talents to other, also enjoyable projects, such as Boomgates & recent New Release Show favourite, Total Control, a trade-off that I honestly don't hate. Eddy Current fans will notice some old cuts reappear in different form, giving some old favourites a new lease on life, in a rough-but-enjoyable kinda way, but with 22 tracks on offer, there's enough here for even the most steadfast fan to sink their mittens into and hopefully this record is only a stop-gap between records, and not a wrapping up present from the group. I can't quite tell if frontman Brendan Suppression is stating a fact, asking a question or just being ironic in an un-ironic kinda-way in choice cut, and apparent cover, Boy, Can I Dance Good- but I've seen him dance and I know for a fact he's one total badass dancer- part Ian Curtis, part sexy-Elvis, it's an all out sensual time to be sure. You'll never stop dancing in my dreams Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Dance on.
