Lightscape

Brisbane Festival and Sony Music Entertainment presents Lightscape, an immersive experience that is both family and date night friendly and will allow attendees to view the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens in a whole new light. The perfect spring outing Lightscape is a visual art installation like no other and uses ambient lighting and sound to create new environments within existing spaces.

The pathway weaves its way through the gardens, much like the roots of the trees that are lit up by interconnected LED RGB lights. The experience is transformative in more ways than one, however, the visual content makes up the majority of the exhibit. The themes within the exhibit are somewhat ambiguous, left up to the viewer’s interpretation - the various soundtracks hinting at a deeper meaning or emotion to be discovered by the viewer.

The sources of lights, whether it be LEDs, light bulbs or whatever else was used, took various forms throughout the exhibit and not only transformed existing surroundings into new environments but created a dreamscape in a sense - allowing the viewer to suspend reality momentarily and experience a whole new world.

The walk through the Botanic Gardens is wheelchair accessible and can be completed in less than 90 minutes and will give you the opportunity to walk through a range of environments that can be experienced both visually and/or aurally. Please note the exhibit is 75% visual content. There is minimal dialogue, some background music and/or sounds that are featured during the walk.

This project is supported through the Giving Program by Philip Bacon AO.
